Fall 1997: It Begins...

It was in the deep dark confines of the Japanese 120 at DVC that an idea formulated in the mind of one Richard Caviteno. His eyes lit up, his senses became hyperactive, and his Ki became strong as he said to himself in a strong, masculine voice "Goddamn it...I'm going to start an anime club right here at this damn school!" Using his tact and brilliance, Caviteno secured room L106 as the home of the club, along with founding members Mammood, Katie, Chris Chun, Debra and Jenea Elim. As he surveyed his new minions, the leader of this anime club brushed his flowing hair back and said "I proclaim this club to be holy and sacred. From this day forth, our club shall be known as [tsunami rises in the background] the Anything Goes Anime Club! Why? Because Ranma is just so damn cool!" Thus, the legend begins, with Richard Caviteno leading the way of this fair anime club as its powerful President!

Spring 1998: A Definite Change

Using his secret network of contacts and his GORGEOUS smile, Anything Goes Anime President Richard Caviteno obtains copies of a hot anime series called Rurouni Kenshin. All of a sudden, the air seemed clearer...the food tasted better...life was more defined as Caviteno realizes that in his possession was the key to the anime fan's wish for an all round series of action, romance, and comedy. Thus, the illustrious President issued forth a holy decree, that forever changed the venue of the anime club: "I hereby rename the Anything Goes Anime Club to...the RONIN ANIME CLUB!!!"

Fall 1998: The Hiko Seijiro period

Richard Caviteno is re-elected as president of the Ronin Anime Club in a landslide victory against his opponents (in fact, at the final run-off there were none...rumors have it that the other opponents were quickly, quietly and permanently "encouraged" not to run o_O). As leader of the Ronin Anime Club, President Caviteno is given the nickname Hiko Seijiro, 13th headmaster of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu style of swordsmanship (from the Rurouni Kenshin series...coincidence? Naaaaawwwww...)

Spring 1999:  Sayonara...Okashira-san...

Richard Caviteno is re-elected as president of Ronin Anime (the bodies of all those opposing him still have not been found...) Caviteno has the idea of showing anime on a screen larger than a 32" television. He therefore secures the Forum to show anime movies to the general populace, thus starting the Ronin Anime tradition of the AnimeFest. He pulls off three AnimeFests before he hears the call of opportunity in San Jose. After many terms of rule and "disciplining", Ronin Anime Club President Richard Caviteno, steps down as its leader. In his place, Jon Aidoo and Nick Galvez are elected as the newbie Co-Presidents.

Fall 1999: A New Beginning

Jon Aidoo and Nick Galvez work to bring Flame of Recca, Maze, Hana Yori Dango, and the first half of Berserk TV to the local anime community. Jon Aidoo begins to learn the ropes and loopholes for running the anime club. He begins to make arrangements in order to mass distribute fansubbed anime to the local anime community. Nick Galvez successfully fulfills his duties, the main one being the attractive Elsha bait (Mmmmm, mmm! She sure does like 'em young). A spent and exhausted Galvez resigns as co-President of Ronin Anime.

Spring 2000: The Shinsen Gumi Regime

Jon Aidoo closes his eyes and chuckles for a little while...then he puts his hands on his hips breaks out in Jinnai-style laughter (El Hazard), as he assumes complete and absolute control as the undisputed ruler of the Ronin Anime Club!  Aidoo extends the anime showings by 30 minutes as he features the end of Flame of Recca, the end of Rurouni Kenshin, a small portion of Cowboy Beebop / Photon, Slayers Try, and Child's Toy. With the generous backing of other anime clubs (Cal-Animage Alpha, Beefbowl Anime, Kodocha Anime Club, and others), Aidoo begins his goal of providing and making anime fans aware of as much fansubbed anime as possible to the local anime community. With stunning and ruthless efficiency, Aidoo vows to bring and distribute the newest fansubbed anime titles to the local anime community!

Summer 2000: "If there has to be a God in this World, then it must be me!"

Ronin Anime aquires the Nekkyo Neko Anime Club, and expands it's anime showings. Nekkyo Neko has off-campus Saturday showings along with weekend activities (such as trips to SF Japantown). Nekkyo Neko presented partial showing of Slayers, Gundam Wing, White Cross, Hana Yori Dango, and mystery anime. Ronin Anime takes off to Anaheim in order to attend AnimExpo 2000. Ronin Anime raids the dealer's room down there and brings back many CD's, wallscrolls, mangas, posters, anime shirts, etc. Ronin Anime relaxes from its normal routine and conducts casual on-campus anime showings, presenting the Bastard series, Slayers Return OVAs, Slayers Perfect, and the El Hazard OVA series.

Fall 2000: BWAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

In a tyrannical move, Aidoo does away with the democratic system and appoints officers for Ronin Anime (no one wanted to run for the presidency, so we guess he's been doing a good job.  But, we are still wondering about those pairs of hands we saw sticking out of his car trunk that were dripping with "tomato sauce"...) Ronin Anime comes back alive as the new full semester commenced! The last AnimeFest was held in the Forum, where the Revolutionary Girl Utena movie was featured. Along with this, the widely acclaimed Escaflowne movie was also shown in a Ronin Anime special showing. Ronin Anime starts to feature free play of Dreamcast and Playstation games at its showings. As the semester progressed, Ronin Anime presented DNA^2, Outlaw Star, the last half of Berserk TV, Slayers Next, and the first half of Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Spring 2001: Neo Ronin

Another semester comes, and once again, the Ronin Anime Club explodes in its weekly anime frenzy!  Powered with the ambition and the energy of new Ronin Anime officers, along with the ever present public hunger for free anime, RAC introduced Ronin Anime EX: the extra day of anime on Mondays.  To inaugurate this new tradition, RAC re-showed the entire Rurouni Kenshin TV series and the Rurouni Kenshin Movie.  RAC pulled of a few special events that were memorable if not just plain funny.  The club attended FanimeCon 2001 where the dealers room was raided, anime was watched at all hours of the night, WEIRD things were seen, and a 2 hour pillow-flying MISHAP occurred in the hotel rooms ^_^.  RAC also went to the 2001 S.F. Cherry Blossom Festival and had RAC Explosion, the end of the semester party where there was video games, anime, food, a water fight, sparring, unexpected yaoi action...and a biggggg trampoline.  During the semester showcase, RAC presented Those Who Hunt Elves, Slam Dunk TV, The Hakkenden, Kareshi Kanojyo no Jijyo, Ranma 1/2 OVAs, and the last half of the Revolutionary Girl Utena TV series.  RAC also finished off the Furi Kuri OVA series, and had a special showing of the Ah! Megami-sama movie, and a re-showing of the Revolutionary Girl Utena movie.
